Fundación Marcelino Botín, a Spanish institution
created in 1964, just opened two new calls: the grants and
the workshops.
The Visual Arts Grants are education, research and personal
project aids that end with the organization of an exhibition
in Santander and the edition of a catalogue. The call is open
to individuals of any nationality. The only requirement for
education grants is to be between the ages of 23 and 40.
Artists who are currently enjoying one of the grants from
Fundación Marcelino Botín are Renata Lucas (Ribeiro
Preto, Brazil, 1971), Leonor Antunes (Lisbon, Portugal, 1972),
Christian Bagnat (Cipollet, Rio Negro, Argentina, 1971), Cabello/Carceller
(Paris, 1963/Madrid, 1964), Ignacio Garmendia (Ordibia, Guipuzcoa,
1972), Rafael G. Bianchi (Olot, Gerona, 1967), Carlos Irijalba
(Pamplona, 1979), Isabel María (Mérida, Badajoz,
1972) and Mira Bernabeu (Aspe, Alicante, 1969).
Concerning the workshop, this year it will be imparted by
Antoni Muntadas, with the collaboration of architect Juan
Herreros. It will focus on the work project as process, form
of discussion and intervention in the urban space.
15 artists will be selected to work at the Villa Iris farm
in Santander between June 30 and July 11, 2008. The
workshop will be in Spanish and English.
Muntadas lives in New York and is a guest professor at the
School of Architecture in MIT, Cambridge and at the Instituto
Universitario de Arquitectura in Véneto, Venice.
Full basis for both calls, as well as the forms to be attached
to the submissions are available in pdf. files at www.fundacionmbotin.org
The deadline for submitting applications is May 9,
2008
In reference to other art calls, the main exhibition of 2008
will be dedicated to American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat
(1960-1988). Organized with the collaboration of Fondazione
Memmo, in Rome, which will be held during summer, in Santander
