Mexican
Surrealist, Alfredo Castañeda, will celebrate his 20th
anniversary at Mary-Anne
Martin/Fine Art with an exhibition of twenty new paintings and
drawings. Entitled “The Middle Ground: Morning Walks”
(La Tierra Intermedia: Paseos Matutinos), the show centers on
themes of time and change, ends and beginnings, and what the artist
refers to as “multiple selves and collective identities.”
Writing of his work in 1999, Carol Damian observed: The paintings
of Alfredo Castañeda are as fascinating as they are
incomprehensible. Through a looking glass into his soul, we
gaze as privileged outsiders into a realm of mystery, alchemical
transformations, metaphysical solutions and secret gatherings.
Castañeda
was born in Mexico in 1938. He began his painting career in Mexico
City with a one-man show at the Galería de Arte Mexicano in
1969. He has shown regularly with Mary-Anne Martin/Fine Art since
1983. He lives and works in Madrid.
A catalogue of the
exhibition is available by mail for $10 postpaid. Complete catalogue
