This article explores the main keys in the development of the Santo Domingo-based Cuban artist Quisqueya Henríquez. Her approach to neo-minimalism, her conception of spaces and form, are illustrated through some of her specific works. The Francis Picabia retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris gathered the most representative pieces in the artist’s oeuvre. In this article, Christine Frérot comments on Picabia’s work, its themes, style, and interest in exploring non-traditional materials. Between December and January, four art fairs generated widespread cultural activity throughout Miami. The fairs contributed to the consolidation of Miami as a meeting place for art and culture. Read more

The Art Omi International Artist’s Colony offers three-weeks residences for visual artists for July, 2004. This art center is located approximately two and a half hours from New York City, in the historical Hudson River Valley.

- For the first time, a work by Diego Velásquez was auctioned in Madrid

It is Cabeza de apóstol, oil on canvas, 38 x 29 cm, dated 1619-20. The painting comes from a private collection in Madrid, and it is known to have belonged to the Marqués de Casa Torres collection and to the Countess of Saltes. Read more
