- Beatriz Milhazes, in the sawy of the Bossas: “Waves”

Beatriz Milhazes’ work has been intertwined with the particular traditions of different territories, their music, carnivals, popular celebrations, and cultural identity of Brazil. Since the 1990 her art has been characterized also by its composition based on monotype and collage. Jose Augusto Ribeiro analyzes the artist’s paintings and her process from the 1980s, when Milhazes first emerged to the Brazilian art scene, through her most recent production. Read the article




- Lespri Endepandan. Discovering Haitian Sculpture

More than 80 works representing 50 years of Haitian art in Haiti were on exhibit at the University of Florida’s Frost Art Museum. Carol Damian reviews the show and comments on the surprising objects artists make using non-traditional materials in sculpture, breaking with the stereotype of carved stone or metal works. Damian also explores the way in which Haitians have created their own artistic traditions based on specific religious, social, and political circumstances, and without many resources. - Exhibition of Nineteenth and Twentieth Century Art from the Cisneros Collection at the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art

Diálogos: Arte Latinoamericano de la Colección Cisneros is the title of the exhibition presented by the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art —Mambo—, May 5 thru June 29. The show was created by the Cisneros Foundation in collaboration with the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art, curated by Ariel Jiménez, the Collection curator. Read more
