- Marcelo Pombo. The Sublime and the Banal.

Between the sublime, the elegant, and the innocent, situated at the point where the real and the virtual diverge, Marcelo Pombo has continued to coherently produce his work since the 1980s. Although guided by an exuberant fantasy, Pombo is an avid realist who decides to enter the realm of things in order to provide us with a new vision of them. In this article Elena Oliveras shows how the artist uses irony while avoiding making art of direct denunciation, produces for paintings that demand an attentive re-reading of the real. In this way, we discover the content of his anti-representationalism. Pombo’s Planetas sobre el horizonte, 2001, is on this issue’s cover. Read the article

The exhibition nucleus of the International Medellín Encounter 2007 / Contemporary Artistic Practices, opens with more than 60 shows from April 13th through June 30.
