- Sixth Mercosur Biennial

The 6th edition of the Mercosur Biennial was held in Porto Alegre, bringing together 350 works from 23 countries under the curatorship led by Gabriel Pérez Barreiro. In this text Lisbeth Rebollo comments on the Biennial’s singularities and the new dynamic that broke with the traditional organizational model and was based on the presentation of specific projects for the exhibition’s various segments. - Albers and Moholy Nagy

The Whitney Museum in New York City presented the show Albers and Moholy Nagy: From Bauhaus to the New World, a comparative exhibition of works by both artists. Luis Camnitzer writes about the exhibition, its achievements and failures, as well as the work of each artist, making reference to the Bauhaus School, where their careers commingled for several years, and explains the way in which they influenced the curriculum of Art Teaching on use even today, and the beginning of that project. Heiress to the Château de Vauvenargues and Picasso’s step-daughter, Catherine Hutin agreed to open her castle to the public. For a period of six months Picasso’s admirers will be able to visit the place and see where the painter was buried. Read the news



- U.S. Art Critics Association announces the recipients of 2006-2007 Awards. New York

At a ceremony held on March 17, 2008, at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the International Association of Art Critics/USA presented its twentieth AICA Awards. The 2006/2007 awards went to artists, curators, gallerists, critics, cultural institutions, museums and galleries in recognition of excellence nationally in the conception and realization of exhibitions. Among the award the Best Thematic Museum Show Nationally was The Geometry of Hope: Latin American Abstract Art from the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection. Organized by the Blanton Museum of Art, University of Texas at Austin. Curator: Gabriel Pérez-Barreiro. Find out who the winners are

- XVI Call for Scholarships for Visual Art Studies 2008-2009. The Marcelino Botín Foundation. Cantabria, Spain

The Marcelino Botín Foundation opens its call for Visual Arts and Organization of Exhibits Scholarships for the 2008-2009. These scholarships will support education, research and personal projects that will culminate with the organization of the exhibit titled Itinerarios (Itineraries) and the publishing of its catalog. The call is open to people from any nationality with the only restriction of being between 23 and 40 years old, to be eligible for the formative scholarships. The deadline for all applications is May 9 of 2008. Read more

The Al Zur-ich Urban Art Encounter is produced by the Tranvía Cero Contemporary Art Collective. The event calls on national and international creators to develop artistic projects inside 10 neighborhoods in Quito’s southern area for a period of 3 months.
