- Art Basel Miami Beach Extends Its Contract with the Miami Beach Convention Center Until 2011. Miami, Florida.

The Art Basel Swiss Fair has recently agreed to extend its contract with the Miami Beach Convention Center until 2011. The Swiss company, Messe Shweiz, owner of the Art Basel Fair, Art Basel Miami Beach, and 30 other events around Europe, had been for the past six years, renovating its contract each year with the Miami Beach Convention Center. - Richard Armstrong Appointed the New Director of the Guggenheim Museum, New York

Effective November 4, Richard Armstrong will take on the position of Director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and the Guggenheim Museum. Following a long selection process in which several candidates were brought forward as possible successors of revolutionary director Thomas Krens – who announced his resignation in June of this year after two decades as director of the Guggenheim. - Head Curators Announced for the 7th Mercosur Biennial

The Mercosur Biennial Foundation recently announced the names of the curators selected to head the seventh edition of that Biennale to take place in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Two candidates where chosen from approximately 67 to curate the event. They are, from Argentina, independent curator Victoria Noorthoorn, and Chilean curator Camilo Yáñez. Read more


- Carlos Cruz-Diez’s exhibition at Americas Society.New York

The first museum-based solo exhibition of the Venezuelan artist in the United States, it was organized by Guest Curator Estrellita B. Brodsky and Assistant Curator Isabela Villanueva. The show follows Cruz-Diez’s development of a unique, color-based approach to kinetic art from the late 1950s to the early 1960s, beginning with his Fisicromías, which he first developed in 1959. Call for entries

- Fugitive Projects announces an open call to artists for video of one minute or less. Nashville, Tennesse

Last year’s Fugitive Video Project 2007 was an invitational and included emerging and established artists whose collective resume includes collaborations with Tom Waits, Win Wenders and the Vienna Philharmonic. This year Fugitive Projects has set aside 20 spaces for open call video submissions to join invited participants into Fugitive Video Project 2009 via this open call. Deadline: November 20, 2008. One of the most important exhibitions of contemporary Asian art, the 2nd annual Asian Contemporary Art Fair New York (ACAF NY), will be held from November 7-10, 2008, at Pier 92, 52nd Street and 12th Avenue, in New York City. More than 60 international galleries and non-profit organizations will show a wide range of contemporary work by artists from countries including China, Japan, Korea, India, Bangladesh, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. - Paris Photo 2008. France

From November 12th to 16th 2008, Paris Photo will bring together at the Carrousel du Louvre, 107 exhibitors from 19 countries. With 78% of participants from abroad and 37 newcomers, the selection for 2008 has favored a greater focus on personal exhibitions and thematic projects, presenting the best photographic expressions from the earliest time to the present day. But one of the important aspects of this 12th edition is the invitation of Japan as country of honor: with the work by more than 130 artists on show, Paris Photo will offer an exceptional overview of a unique site of practice, from the Meiji era to the most contemporary production.
