Federico Herrero
As part of South London Gallery’s residence program and the gallery’s Under the Same Sun exhibition, Federico Herrero presents Pelican Estate Playground, a site-specific work in a children’s playground that is the result of his collaboration with residents of a housing complex in Peckham.

The artist speaks about the implementation of shapes and colors in the site so as to avoid the decorative associations of mural painting. He also presents a workshop with children from the community and events around the residence.

Exhibition curator Pablo León de la Barra defines the use of painting in Herrero’s work as an excuse to allow things to occur, giving the use of color a power of activation in space that “interferes” with our activities. Pelican Estate Playground can be visited through September 4, 2016.
