William Kentridge Wins the 2017 Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts

ArtNexus shares the video produced by Canal Sur on the occasion of the 2017 Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts being granted to South African Artist William Kentridge on May 2. The jury selected Kentridge for a meticulous and thoughtful creative approach that connects the history and reality of South Africa through paintings, video installations, drawings, and animations.

In the video Kentridge talks about his exhibition titled "Will You Not Join the Dance?" presented at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo (CAC) in Malaga, Spain. The video also includes a conversation about the exhibition between Kentridge and the show's curator, Fernando Frances, in which they analyze the pictorial influences of Spanish artists like Picasso, Velázquez, and Goya, on the technique and structure with which Kentridge renders a tapestry series.
