New York City's New Museum of Contemporary Art presented an exhibition of Helio Oiticica's quasi-cinemas installations. Luis Camnitzer reviews the show in an article about these pieces that seem to expand the ideas and the aesthetic of Oiticica's 1960s work. Regarding the importance and relevance of this show, Camnitzer says: "…it resides in the fact that that they complete Oiticica's image and history as the artist who, in his time, broke with many of the dominant artistic barriers and opened the path for those who came behind him." - Ceara America Biennial: De Ponta-cabeça (Upside Down), Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil
The first edition of this Biennial gained quick acceptance among artists. critics, specialists and the visiting public. The project took as its reference the same concept developed by Uruguayan artist Joaquín Torres-García in his El Norte y el Sur map. This text by Rodrigo Moura sketches the factors that contributed to the Biennial's success and presents the participating curators and artists.

- Program exchange between art institutes in Havana and San Francisco. Cuba-USA
The language of art was the driving force in bringing together students for the San Francisco, US Art Institute and Havana’s Instituto Superior de Arte, ISA. After four years of intermittent visits to Cuba, Tony Labat, who teaches New Genres at the San Francisco school, brought along a group of students to co-create the course Behavior Art with Cuban artist Tania Bruguera. - Julio Valdez wins a New York Foundation for the Arts 2003 Fellowship. New York
Dominican artist Julio Valdez was awarded one of the prestigious New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) fellowships, in the Works on Paper category, for the 2003-2004 period. The award, which includes a US$7,000 stipend, is one of the most coveted in the state of New York, and is given yearly to outstanding artists in every discipline in order to help their creative development and boost their careers. - Mexican artist Jorge Rosano offers a workshop for students at Design and Architecture Senior High School -DASH-, Miami, Florida
Rosano is known for his works and installations with cut paper, and his altarpieces are widely acclaimed in Mexico for the personal way in which they recreate a fundamental element in Mexican popular culture. The pre-Columbian world, the indigenous presence and our relationship with Nature are all sources of Rosano's work. For year, the artist has conducted workshops in the US and Mexico, teaching his way of making art. Read more about the workshop

- Ferran Cano Gallery
Established in 1973, it focuses and contemporary and young art. It has exhibition spaces in Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona, and it also offers studies for artists-in-residence.

This gallery takes part in the most significant international fairs (ARCO, Art Basel, Art Chicago, FIAC, Art Cologne, among others.) Ferran Cano Darder was a member of the ARCO committee in 1991 and 1992, and of the Art Chicago committee in 1993.

For 30 years, the Ferran Cano Gallery has been an important space in the artistic life of Palma and Barcelona. Its inauguration was supported by Joan Miró and Robert Graves, and it was the first Mallorca gallery to mount individual shows by Saura, Tàpies, Arroyo, Johns, Hockney, Warhol, Beuys...

Starting in the 1980s, the gallery intensified its policy of becoming a space for emerging artists, presenting the first such shows by Miquel Barceló, Joan Brossa, José Manuel Broto, Chema Cobo and Ferrán García Sevilla.
